Tips For Success For Mystery Thriller Authors

By Elizabeth Powell

Crime books are some of the most read books across the world. People are interested in crime novels because they are interesting to read and engage readers in investigations. Surprisingly, readers do not know the two types of writing genres authors specialize in to come up with amazing crime stories. Most people define all crime books as thrillers or mysteries. While it is true, thrillers and mysteries have similarities, they differ in many ways. Any aspiring author should learn the difference and seek advice on how to write novels from mystery thriller authors.

Writing crime books is a task that requires skills and knowledge. First, identify your audience and determine how to attract them to read your book. Start by writing a sentence that gives the reader reasons to read each chapter. Crime books involve dramatic events and queries that create suspense. Begin a sentence with a question or dramatic expression.

Mysteries and thrillers are about investigations and discovery of unexpected theories. Turn your audience to detectives by giving clues to get clarity on conflicting events. Although clues help find answers to questions, they should not be direct to the subject matter. Giving easy hints will make the reading experience boring. Place honest characters and culprits together. This way, readers will have a hard time learning who is telling the truth.

It is crucial to explain events and outcomes throughout your content. Your explanation should cause curiosity and encourage readers to investigate further. Multiple types of explanation are widely used in mystery novels. The type of explanation you choose to use should give the audience a different perspective of the event and turn a character's life upside down.

Novels become boring if the events, outcomes, and characters seem obvious. Distract the attention of the reader from getting answers to various questions by using red herring. Also known as clues, red herrings lead investigations to another step. Readers focus more on finding the truth as they follow the author's explanation. Add a suspicious character into the story to divert reader's attention from discovering the truth.

Mystery and thriller novels are based on contradicting dialogue. One character tells a lie or says something conflicting from what the readers know. Make use of unexpected or bizarre words to create suspenseful dialogue. Professional writers recommend the use of characters who do not cooperate when asked details about an event.

The best selling crime books are written in a descriptive language. Professional authors describe events in a straightforward manner and use realistic settings to catch the attention of your readers. Spend quality time learning more about sentence structure to ensure your content is eye-catching. There are various language rules you need to learn to avoid improper use characterization in your novel.

Chapter setting and conclusion affect the outcome of novels. Chapters should be aligned properly based on your story. Good chapters begin with settings, events, and discoveries of events or characters that sounded suspicious but are quite the opposite. The end of your story should leave readers in suspense. Readers are interested in novels that motivate them to search for the next series. With these tips from top-notch thriller authors, writing a novel should not be difficult.
