What To Look For In Alabama Abstract Artists

By Mary Clark

Some people look at a piece of art and if they do not see something that they can recognize and understand right away, they make up their mind right away that they do not like the particular type of art. It is possible to develop a taste for intellectual pieces like this, but as Jackson Pollock once said, some people like it and some people just don't. Those wanting to give it a try can check out some of the most popular Alabama abstract artists.

Another name for this type of artwork is nonobjective art. One of the things that people love so much about it is the fact that they can be interpreted so broadly. A lot of people love that fact that it requires a certain amount of artistic intuition in order to be able to appreciate a piece. This makes many appreciators of fine art feel more connected to their pieces.

Nonobjective artwork is most easily recognized as a painting, but it can also be in the form of a sculpture or many other things. Like the interpretation of the subject of these pieces, the medium is limited only to the artist's creativity. This makes this area of artwork highly unique and innovative.

For those who are new to abstraction as an art form, an individual may have a hard time knowing what he or she is looking at. A big help for a lot of people is to find ways to break down the different elements of the painting or sculpture into ways that are comprehensible. This is a process of analyzing the subject of the work, which is what the piece represents.

When someone looks at a conventional painting, he or she might project their own lives onto the piece when he or she sees something that is familiar and recognizable. Andy Warhol's famous can of soup might remind the viewer of what he or she had for lunch. With abstraction, such conventional associations are not able to be made, and the viewer much go much deeper and artistically.

The aspects that make up the subject of a piece of artwork like this can include things like the types of brushstrokes that are used, the size of the piece, the scale of the images portrayed, the shapes that are represented, and the colors that are used. These in and of themselves encompass a broad range of techniques. Outside of these, an artist can be as creative as possible.

Being able to look at a piece artistically and with feeling is essential to appreciate this type of artwork. While some might look at a piece like this and think that there is not much that it could possibly be about because there is nothing recognizable, this is not true at all. By feeling emotionally through the piece, a lot can be discovered.

Action painting is a form of performance art that is still popular today. Many people have seen artists who jump energetically around on a stage while they throw paint on a canvas and create a beautiful work of art before the audience's eyes. One of the notable people who partook in this form of art was Jackson Pollock.
