Vocal Lessons Help Build Stamina

By Donald Meyer

Places like Los Angeles, CA are home for many major and independent record companies, along with advertisers that use singers. However, having talent, persistence and a strong set of pipes can help any future recording artist go a long way. This is why getting vocal lessons early is essential to any career.

Many feel that because they are just beginning, or are young, that this is not necessary. Starting early is one of the best ways to preserve the voice. Some popular musicians will not see a coach until after a few years of performing. While this may seem to be the practical way to do things, often it is not.

One reason is that known recording artist may have the extra money to pay for rebuilding what is lost, or on its way out. By luck, they may have become successful before learning how to train their vocal chords but this does not happen to everyone. Some people have a modest career that pays the bills but often promotional touring is necessary to sell recordings. Anyone performing on this level will want to give a strong performance every time they get on stage or in a recording booth because there is no money to waste.

So instead of looking at lessons as an expense, it can be an investment. Whether a person sings lead or does background work for others, keeping this precious gift intact is necessary to keep working. Vocal training can also help with reaching difficult notes or holding notes longer during a performance.

This process is similar to getting in good physical shape. Many people are born with good metabolism so they rarely gain weight but may work out because it makes them feel good. This habit helps them stay in shape as they get older and metabolism slows down. They are usually better off than people who never work out and need to in order to get into better physical shape.

Others who should consider vocal training are regular smokers and those with chronic respiratory issues. Coaches can help with anxiety and other obstacles that can hinder delivery. Sometimes the body can undergo changes that the artist is unaware of but an expert can give an analysis based on industry experience. Singers who integrate screaming or rap artists may also benefit from voice lessons.

Having a strong voice has many benefits. The performer who wants to diversify their options may want to lend their voice to other recordings, also known as a hook, which may expose their sound to a new audience. Strong voices are also great for marketing products or other promotional ideas that are certain to make money for the singer.

So the rewards for treating the voice can be endless. There is much more to this than resting or having something hot to drink after a rigorous recording session or performance. By getting an expert on your team early, the voice will remain strong for years to come.
