Vital Concepts In Right Hand Drive Conversions

By Mary Powell

Over years, many people have engaged in endless argumentation on the way positions of drives in cars are changed and diverted from one side to the other. Majority of the people claim that when changing the positions, only the dashboards and steering wheel are transferred or alternated to the other side and others assume that the chain-drive process is usually adopted. The latter is however, inferior. According to evidence from companies that make right hand drive conversions, the mirror image process is what is used. It entails making new parts in resemblance with those that initially existed.

This process can only be executed if it accords with the law, as under the National Codes and Practices. It should also meet what is provided in the Vehicles and Safety Standards Act. The process of changing drives in vehicles encompasses an order of events. First of all, when the vehicle being changed is presented to a converting company, it is initially jacked up, and then raised on stands. From there, other subsequent operations are carried out.

When a car that is to be converted is brought into a converting company, it is first and foremost jacked up, and consequently uplifted on stands. Then, it is disengaged and disassembled, and this marks the beginning of the process of converting it. The parts are stored in respective compartments, for instance in a dedicated bay. The vehicles number is always tagged on each part, so as to prevent cases of mismatching.

Consequently, there is another integral step known as quality control. At this step, the proceedings on the conversion process are accessed, and errors, if any, rectified. Serious companies make it their topmost priority to satisfy all their clients, so mistakes are as much as possible, lessened. Undesirable parts that produce squeaks rattles and other noises are eliminated fully from the dashes, probably by use of deadeners which mold and heat them to take new shapes. This is usually in a bid to realize conformity and uniformity. They in the end resemble the ones that were in existence, previously.

From there, there is a step only undertaken by the very serious companies. It is called the unique quality check control of the entire conversion process. At this stage, analysis and scrutiny is done, whereby it is counter checked if everything has been placed in order, before handing back the vehicle to its owner.

Companies have in the recent past become more innovative, as far as ensuring resemblance and conformity of components is concerned. This is made possible by the making of pre-folds and pre-drills and also cutting some of the components, with the intention of fostering cohesiveness in that they are ultimately similar to the previous ones. In the long run, the car being changed positions of the drives ends up totally resembling its previous form.

More interestingly, part numbering that is usually done, eases the making of replacements and other activities. No mistakes are expected in the making of new parts, because they are pre-tapped and put in respective little bundles.

Performax Limited and RHD Vehicle Converters are some of the most notable companies offering conversion services. They are of great value to drivers uncomfortable with their car drives being left-sided, and are contemplating converting them to the right hand side.
