Cooking & Its Roles On Television

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

When it comes to the art of cooking, it's clear that there is an appreciation by those who are devoted to it. They understand the ways in which food is prepared, which goes without saying, and I am sure that those who are familiar with the culinary arts can attest to how it's been implemented in the idea. Simply look at the broader picture of television, for example. It has a wide audience to consider and I believe that there are many others who can agree with this sentiment as well.

When talking about the audiences in question, you have to look at those who enjoy food. Specifically, consider the fact that many people watch these shows and go on to prepare their own meals, whether they have been televised or not. Nonetheless, they are able to present learning experiences to these men and women with culinary prowess. I also think that it's important to focus on the entertainment side of things, which I will get into a bit later.

If you want to talk about cooking-themed shows, look at the likes of Rachael Ray and Bobby Flay. These individuals, in addition to many others, have been able to showcase their culinary skills in such a way that they can teach others. Not only do they expose the broader audience to various meals but, more often than not, they do so while being entertainment. The only way to maintain a cooking show, in this day and age, is to mix entertainment value with actual knowledge.

If you want to look at more entertainment-oriented shows, look at some of the programs that Gordon Ramsay has been part of. Known for his outspoken demeanor, to put it lightly, Ramsay has been able to parlay his culinary experience into shows like "Kitchen Nightmare." When he's able to show what is done wrong, in hospitality management and the like, he's a more effective personality for it. The reason for this is because food specialists trust his word.

As you can see, cooking has expanded outside of the kitchen and hospitable areas alike. Television has become quite the platform this endeavor, especially when you think about the number of shows on the air today. These shows are not only able to entertain us, in many cases, but help to educate us about how food should be prepared. With these points in mind, it's easy to see why these types of programs remain strong and popular to boot.
