What One Should Consider When Visiting A Tattoo Studio

By Mattie MacDonald

Tattooing the body involves introducing ink pigments into pierced skin to make permanent marks. The introduced pigments become visible as ink. The business where this process is done is referred to as a tattoo studio. Artists who specialize in tattoos are called tattooists. Since the piercing process makes contact with blood vessels, the process can be a source of many dangers to the individual being tattooed.

The skin, a protective layer of the body, gets perforated when one gets tattooed. Infections and other health risks are likely to attack the body through such skin. Therefore exercising caution before getting a tattoo is advisable because of the many risks involved. The thing one should do before visiting a tattoo shop are highlighted in this article.

The inks used in tattooing are not restricted in any way by the Food and Drug Administration. This has the meaning that manufacturers can introduce potentially harmful substances into them and no one would care. The FDA does not control pigments, but only reacts to issues after they have happened. From this, it is obvious that there could be some harm already happening now that no one has already noticed.

The first step to do is to find out if it is mandatory for artists and shops to be registered or licensed for them to practice in the area. The best way to find this out is to contact the state department of public health in the area. The health office should also be able to provide a list of all shops registered in the area plus all complaints filed by clients in the past. Such information is very important when deciding which studio to visit.

After identifying a few shops, which are registered, one should try to understand their sterilization processes. The shop must be having an autoclave for sterilizing equipment. Every client should have their own sterile needle, which must then be disposed afterwards. In addition, the sanitation should be high. The artist should wear new gloves for every client they work on and hands must be washed thoroughly. If any of these conditions is not met, checking another studio is advisable.

Once the conditions are confirmed to be safe, it is time to get personal with the artist. This should involve asking about the level of training and certifications earned. To confirm this, it is safer to request to see the certificates. If the person is reluctant, it may imply that they are not qualified for the job because most people are normally proud to reveal such information.

The working of the artist can also tell a lot about the studio. Therefore, one should request to stay around while a client is being worked on. One can confirm all they needed to during this time. There should be no haste in walking away if safety precautions are broken.

Quality of service and cost charged for services should not be traded. It is worthwhile to pay more if it guarantees that one will walk away with their health intact. Trading quality for cheap services can cost one their health.
