Using Tyvek Suits To Protect From Chemicals Is Appropriate And Inexpensive

By Krystal Branch

One of the items or garments that has saved more workers from dangerous elements in the work place is the disposable protective suits. These are generically called Tyvek Suits, however these items, manufactured by Dupont, are the only true standard to which every other garment is compared. The number of industries who use this single layer of high density polyethylene fabric to protect their employees is a very long list.

In some industries, such as food plants, the suits will protect the product from the wearer and any contamination they carry on their clothes. This is also the case in pharmaceutical and electronic clean rooms. The nature of these garments is to prevent passage of contaminants from one side of the fabric to the other. This is a flexible material in this sense and can be used to denote personnel working in various areas or practicing different disciplines.

A number of different colors are available for wear. Hoods are attached on many models and some will even have shoe covers or booties attached. The wrist sections usually have elastic bands around them to prevent air flow, however, some models will have a belted version to make it even tighter. If there is no hood, the neck of the garment will be collared. Wearing a suit with hood and booties attached will be the perfect protection for the vast majority of situations especially if a pair of goggles are worn.

The most popular models will have a seamless front and zipper. The back will have a stretchy panel that assists in forming to the wearers body type. Some will also have a belt that can be pulled in to cinch it tighter than the stretchy panel will allow. One of the most important elements of these garments will be to get them in the proper size.

Suits like these are a common sight in chemical plants. The spills that are almost inevitable will not be able to get through the material. Unless the wearer is dipped into the substance they are protected by this strong material. It is strong enough to crawl around in some of the dirtiest areas and still not rip. This activity is very common for janitorial personnel working in confined spaces to clean or service equipment located there.

Many cleaning operations and operators will wear these suits. Crime scene clean up and foreclosure cleaning are a few of these activities. Many window cleaners will use these as they are protected from getting wet. With the extra layer of clothing they stay warm at some of the heights at which they work.

The lightweight material has revolutionized many of the industries in which they are used. The ability to get as close to some things or substances as they are able to get helps productive workers get on with production. This is especially true when thinking about the cleaning that can be done without the fear of contamination if proceeding carefully.

Having a case of Tyvek Suits always on hand is a safe, inexpensive way of protecting all who work for you. They do not cost as much as you may think and many of them are washable. Most find it necessary to simply hang them to dry and reuse them the next day.
