Barcelona Paintings And Additional Sightseeing Information

By Jayne Rutledge

Barcelona is one of the most fabulous Spanish cities that you can visit. Whether you have have weeks of vacation available, or only a few days to spare, you will surely find plenty of spectacular attractions to keep you busy. If you are particularly interested in art, there is an abundance of Barcelona paintings to be enjoyed. The several popular art galleries in the city include the Galeria D'Art Manuel Barbie, Galeria Brok and the Francisco Godia Foundation.

The places of art in this city are well-known and visited often by tourists. They have displays of pottery and sculptures, in addition to their paintings, and visitors can even buy antique furniture at the Galeria Brok. This gallery can be found at Pau Claris 167. The galleries are open on weekdays, from the morning till evening, and many of them open on Saturdays too. However, their times can differ, therefore it is best to get advice from a tourist center first.

The city is quite easy to get around, as public transport is provided. For tourists, there are special buses, or visitors can decide to take one of the walking tours. They are guided by an expert on the historical attractions who will talk in English. These tours must be booked in advance from one of the tourist centers, such as the main one in the Placa Catalunya. The walks generally begin at 10:00.

If the thought of walking is not appealing, the buses are a good alternative. Tourist buses drive a continuous route past many of the city's main attractions, and their passengers can hop off to spend some time at one location and hop back on when they are ready to move on to the next. The tourist office can give you the hours that the buses will be available, and you will have to pay for tickets.

The architecture of some of the buildings in the city have been influenced by Gaudi, a well-known person in Spain's rich history of artists and architects. His buildings include the Casa Vincens and the La Sagrada Familia as well as several others. The Parc Guell is another place of Gaudi, with the Hundred Columns Room. Parc Guell is considered a UNESCO world heritage site.

Some of the city's best attractions are modern and ideal for children, such as the zoo and L'Aquarium, two places filled with wonderful animals. Water creatures inhabit the aquarium, and over 7,000 different animals are found at the zoo. The aquarium features an intriguing transparent structure, while Snowflake, an albino gorilla, is a favorite resident at the zoo. Additional attractions include the sea life center.

When the weather is warm Barcelona's beautiful beach is the place to be. There are actually a couple available, including Bogatell and Nova Mar Bella. All of them have facilities. Under two very high buildings, you will find the Olympic Port, known for its ample places of entertainment.

Another two places to visit are the Museo Picasso and the Ramblas de Canaletes. The first-mentioned is a museum that houses some spectacular Barcelona paintings by Picasso, as well as some of his ceramic works. The second is a walkway with kiosks selling newspapers from different countries around the world.
